From diagnosis and treatment to education and prevention, Primary Care may just be the cornerstone of your health and wellbeing. Taking charge of your health is both critical and empowering, and starting with getting established with a primary care provider is a powerful first step. Don’t know what to expect? We’re here to help! Read on to learn more about what to expect at your first visit and how to prepare.Â
What To Have Prepared
It’s a good idea to have a few things prepared before walking into your first appointment. As a start, bring your wallet with your ID and insurance card if you have one. Make and bring a list of all the medications that you’re currently on with the dosages (or bring your medications with you) as well as whatever medical concerns, goals, and questions that you have. If possible, have a good knowledge of your family’s medical history as well, and if you have had any doctors or seen any specialists in the past, it may be a good idea to have their name and number handy. Lastly, have your phone or a pen and paper ready so that you can take notes (Intercoastal Medical Group)!
What To Expect From Your Provider
At your first visit, you can expect to have your height and weight measured, be asked a few general questions, and have your blood pressure checked by a staff member. When your provider comes in, they will conduct a physical examination, review your medical history, and address your concerns and questions with you. From this, they can work with you to form an ongoing care plan, give guidance, and provide referrals if needed. Your provider is meant to be your main point of contact every step of the way, no matter what your health journey looks like (Genesis Medical Associates)!
Picking A Provider
Having a provider that you like and trust is so important. There is no pressure to stick with the first one that you come across! When looking for a provider, look for one that exemplifies professionalism, compassion, and respect. Are they attentive to you? Do they seek to make you feel heard and comfortable? Do they respond in compassionate and helpful ways?Â
At Compass Community Health, compassionate care is who we are. No matter what your health needs and goals are, our team of Primary Care Providers is here for YOU! Take charge of your health today by calling (740) 355-7102.Â
